Celebration: Emily + Ryan’s Wedding and Dance Party

Location: Motorco Music Hall, Durham, NC

The experience

Emily & Ryan were so much fun! And, as it turns out, so were their guests! Both the wedding ceremony and the reception that followed took place at the Motorco Music Hall. Motorco, known for their live music shows, is located in a vibrant nightlife area in Durham just north of downtown. Not your traditional venue but there was love in the air there and everyone could feel it!

The day started with the groomsmen (yes, the groomsmen) meeting me at the tent next to Motorco to string market lights, place tables and chairs, etc. I usually shy away from this being a good plan but this group of guys were so helpful, quick to act and really cheerful. Sign ‘em up!

Emily & Ryan’s very personal ceremony was officiated by their dear friend Lee. The ceremony itself was warm, emotional and, at times, hilarious! The ceremony centerpiece, a copper arch decorated with floral and fabric, was constructed by the bride and her dad. Many of the decor elements of the day were also DIY. Not all folks have a knack for this, but Emily sure did!

After a casual buffet dinner, Emily, Ryan, the wedding party and their guests got down to business, and I mean serious business, on the dance floor. I have never seen a more active dance floor scene! DJ Ryan was a blast to work with and not only did he get the crowd out on the floor but he kept them there in a veritable dancing frenzy!

Donuts from local favorite Monuts Donuts were displayed on a handmade donut rack for the taking and Ryan’s Aunt Patti’s carrot cake tasted as good as it looked. From what I heard, her cake is Ryan’s favorite and I understand why. Yum! The evening at Motorco was capped by a fun-loving bubble blowing sendoff for the couple as they led the way for friends and family alike to an after party down the street that I am sure included…well…wait for it…DANCING!
